a friend's loving arms -
When the sun is cracked open on the side of the world
& you feel you may drown in the flame
When your heart is cracked open & your love is unfurl'd
& you cry cus it's one crying shame
Lift up the sun, cus inside there's a pearl
And there's one in your heart just the same
& I'll string them right through, and tie them on you
Honey, you'll be safe with me
When the light drops its guard and the darkness pours in
And you feel you're alone with your eyes
When you drop your guard and your vulnerable skin
is pierced by some savage disguise
Don't be afraid of the dark, through the night you can swim
And your skin will heal up, it's no lie
When the smile shines through from the centre of you
Honey, you'll be safe with me
When the soldier comes home with the lead in his bones
And he's looking for a safe place to hide
When your lover comes home on his treacherous throne
& he's asking for a generous bride
Tell 'em, "leave me alone, cus I'm not on my own"
Tell 'em, "Go now, you can't come inside"
Of your house that's brand new, the one I built for you
Honey, you'll be safe with me
I seen the smile shine through from the centre of you
Honey, you'll be safe with me

Comments
Thanks for your kind comments, I really appreciate it when people try to get to grips with my songs. The truth is there's not always a story behind them that can be easily told in words - the song, if it's good, tells the story of itself. Usually the words come to me from out of nowhere and I just write them down, I don't feel I can take full responsibility for them myself. In this case though, the song was written for a friend of mine, a girl who is afflicted by random panic attacks that make her life difficult at times. So I just tried to write her a song that might help her not to feel so afraid. I'm glad you like it
